Normalizing the Taliban: Aisha Wahab and Masuda Sultan

Some Afghanistanis had a grievance against Aisha Wahab, who, in an interview with Democracy Now, said that the US should normalize relations with the Taliban regime and at the same time, villainizing the resistance against the Taliban. 

Well, here is another Taliban lobbyist who believes Afghanistan's republic era was the worst period for the people of Afghanistan, and as she says, "Afghans who had grievances," which she means the Taliban and the Pashtun, her people, are now in power. Her name is Masuda Sultan. She had lost several members of her family in American bombings, and that is the lens through which she judges the current situation in Afghanistan. She simply says, US and former regimes are bad, Taliban are good.

To Ms. Sultan, the issue of women, and the education of women and girls, is merely a trivial matter; it is simply that the "Emir" (or Amir), as she puts it, doesn't want girls going to school, whereas the rest of the Taliban are supposedly angels. What she is if we could just win the Emir's favor, Afghanistan would be a paradise under the Taliban. This is the sort of person who is either completely ignorant of the situation in Afghanistan or is genuinely a Taliban lobbyist. As a woman, instead of raising women's issues and the genocidal violence against the Hazara people under the Taliban regime, she indirectly signals approval of their oppression.
